New challenges, new genres
I don’t like repeating myself. Let me say that one more time. I don’t … no, wait. Aha! So, as it happens, I’m not really fond of writing “more of the same”, so to speak. Once I’ve done a certain theme, I don’t find great enjoyment in rehashing it. Some authors love their worlds, and keep spinning endless sequels in them. But that’s too familiar, too easy for me. I always need to push beyond my would-be comfort zone, and I always want to try new things, writing wise. Hence, the two new topics I’m going to do in 2025: military history and romance novel, what.
My first challenge will be writing a military history book. So, it’s proper nonfiction, and it’s going to require a lot of research. I’ve already started this journey, and roughly a month or two later, I’ve already properly read more than a hundred books on the subject. And which subject may that be, you ask. Well, it’s a little secret for now. We shall talk about it in the future.
The second choice of mental exercise and writing style development is the tricky field of romance. Formulaic and yet devilishly easy to botch. Also, not typically my kind of demographics, both on the writing or reading levels. That’s what’s going to make this endeavor doubly interesting. I wanna to see if I’m capable of writing a lighthearted, frivolous escapade, insteading going down my usual cynical grimdark path, genres notwithstanding.
There’s a lot more to both these decisions, but we shall sample the experience slowly. For now, this wee announcement, and there will be more good stuff coming soon. Stay tuned.
