Reduced book prices

Reduced book prices

Well, it’s a simple decision really. I have reduced the prices of both The Betrayed and The Broken, so more people get the chance to buy the books and read them, you know. Now there’s such a thing as a minimal price, which must cover the printing and shipping costs and such. In turn, this means effectively limiting the print distribution, so it won’t include some of the less popular third-party stores and libraries, but I think it should be worth it. While I cannot compete with the standard mass market paperbacks, the discount is still rather handsome.

The Broken has been published!

The Broken has been published!

Yes! Here we go! Finally. The Broken, the second book of The Lost Words epic fantasy series has been published. After almost six months of editorial work, it’s out there. Please note that the Amazon guys are still setting up store. The paperback version is out there, and the Kindle edition is coming out soon.

This 792-page volume continues the story started in The Betrayed. And the reason why it runs twice the length of the first installment is partly because of your feedback, dear readers. You expressed some dissatisfaction with the very fast pace and abrupt jumps between characters across chapters, so I added some depth and color to the tale. Worry not, there are no silly explanations about some dress a heroine might be wearing, or how green the leaves on a tree are in the spring. It’s pure, raw action, with just a little bit more extra background and polish to ease your way into the wonderful world of the Realms.

It’s the final countdown

It’s the final countdown

Yes! I have just approved the second proof of Book Two, The Broken. This version included approx. 40 fixes, which I found and spotted in the first proof, mostly spelling mistakes. Now that they all have been successfully incorporated into the manuscript, and nothing new and bad seems to have shown up, the book is ready to go. What happens now is as follows.

The Broken physical proof is here!

The Broken physical proof is here!

Yes, finally! Today, the first proof arrived via courier, and boy, it looks awesome. The book is big and shiny and sexy, and weighs over one kilogram. It’s also one of the thickest books I’ve ever seen, rivaling some of the 1,000+ page mass market paperbacks like The Lord of the Rings or The Song of Ice and Fire, any one of the five books. But it’s dandy and cool, and here it is. The cover is a tiny bit damaged from the shipping, still, it’s the bestest ever.

From cream to white

From cream to white

Hello people. Here’s an interesting piece of information that you should read. About a week back, I got a phone call from my project team, telling me that they were forced to change the interior setup for my upcoming, second book in the series, The Broken. Namely, the book was too thick. It runs some 800 pages, and with high-quality cream paper, it is simply not possible to create a proper paperback binding. The alternative? White paper.

Books away!

Books away!

About a week and a half ago, I’ve received a nice and heavy package from CreateSpace – the promotional kit. Twenty plus kilograms of paper, just the right figure to make your back hurt ever so slightly. It’s loaded with books that need to be handed out, to friends and family, as well as the winners of the free book giveaway contest.

The Betrayed contest winners announced

The Betrayed contest winners announced

Dear fellows, it’s been two weeks since I’ve announced my win-a-free-book contest and it’s now officially over. Luckily for me, I will not need be crying in a corner forever alone, as I’ve managed to get more than ten entries submitted. To be more precise, a total of seventeen different people mailed me, and I had two more friends abstain from their participation knowing they would get their free copies anyway.

I must admit I found the total number of submissions surprising both in a good way and a bad way. I’d expect more people to want to get free stuff, even if it’s a fantasy book, but given Dedoimedo’s demographics, mostly hardcore geeks who tend to mistrust and treat everything with scorn, seventeen is a good number. On the brighter side, seventeen strangers want to read my book, which is not a bad thing at all. Let’s announce them.

The Betrayed proof approved

The Betrayed proof approved

Finally, it’s done. I’ve just approved the book for print. The Betrayed should be available in online stores in about a week, and a little longer to reach the shelves in retail shops and libraries. It took a while to get this done. After almost nine months of work, including no less than four soft proofs and two physical proofs, the book is ready for publication. Oh, I’m rather pleased. And so should you be.
